HULIA

Privacy Policy

Effective 22 July 2026 · Last updated 22 July 2026

The short version

This policy explains what HULIA (the "app") does with information when you use it. HULIA is an Android app for chatting with a single AI companion. It is deliberately built to keep your data on your own device.

1. Who we are

HULIA is made and published by an independent individual developer. There is no company backend, no shared database, and no user directory. For any privacy question, request, or concern, contact:

Email: sanukey8@gmail.com

2. What stays on your device

Everything you create in HULIA is stored locally on your phone, in the app's private storage. This includes:

This information is not transmitted to the developer and is not collected by any analytics or advertising service. It only leaves your device in the two situations described in sections 3 and 6.

3. What is sent to AI providers

HULIA does not generate replies by itself. To produce a reply, the app sends a request directly from your device to the AI provider you selected during setup, authenticated with your own API key. Supported providers are:

Each request may contain: your recent messages, the companion's persona and context, the companion's mood, and the memory facts most relevant to what you just said. This is the information the model needs in order to answer in character.

Because you supply your own key and the request goes straight to the provider, the developer never receives, sees, stores, or has any access to your messages or that request. How the provider handles the data is governed by their privacy policy, not this one:

Please review the privacy policy of whichever provider you connect. Your relationship for that data is directly with them, under the API key you created with them.

4. What we do not collect

HULIA does not collect, and has no way to collect, any of the following:

The app requests a single Android permission — INTERNET — which is used only to reach the AI provider you chose.

5. Backups

Android offers system-level backup and device-to-device transfer. If you have those features enabled on your phone, Android may include HULIA's local database and settings (which contain your conversation, memories, and your encrypted API key) in a backup or transfer. This is performed by Google / your device, under Google's own privacy terms, not by HULIA.

Your API key is stored as ciphertext, and the encryption key it relies on is held in your device's hardware-backed keystore and cannot be exported. As a result, a backed-up API key cannot be decrypted on a different device.

You can turn Android Backup off in your device Settings (typically under System → Backup) if you prefer that nothing is copied off the device.

6. Your API key

To use HULIA you provide an API key from your chosen AI provider. That key is:

You can replace or remove your key at any time in the app's settings.

7. Adults only (18+)

HULIA is intended for adults aged 18 and over. The companion is an adult (the app enforces a minimum age of 18 for the companion), and conversations can include mature and romantic themes. The app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you are not an adult, please do not use HULIA.

8. Your choices and controls

Because your data lives on your device, you are in direct control of it:

9. Data retention

The app keeps your data locally until you delete it or uninstall the app. There is no server-side copy held by the developer, so there is nothing for the developer to retain, export, or erase on your behalf.

10. Security

HULIA is built local-first: sensitive material stays on your device, and your API key is encrypted with hardware-backed keys as described above. No method of electronic storage or transmission is ever completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but the app is designed to minimise what is stored and what is transmitted.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) give you rights over your personal information — including the right to access, correct, delete, and to not have your information sold.

HULIA's design already meets these in the most direct way possible: your personal data is not collected by the developer and is not sold or shared. It remains on your device, where you can view, edit, or delete it yourself at any time (see section 8). For any request or question about your rights, contact sanukey8@gmail.com. For data you have sent to an AI provider under your own key, contact that provider using their privacy policy linked in section 3.

12. Children

HULIA is not intended for children and is restricted to adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has used the app, uninstalling it removes the local data; you may also contact us at the email above.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and post the new version at this same URL. Significant changes will be reflected here; please check back periodically.
